Asteroids Dynamics & Impact Monitoring

Orbit determination of millions of asteroids is our mission

SpaceDyS is one of the worldwide excellences on asteroids’ dynamics. It has operated, maintained or developed two of the three Near Earth Objects impact-monitoring systems in the world: NEODyS (born at the University of Pisa and migrated to SpaceDyS) and the ESA NEO Coordination Centre Impact Monitoring software Aegis.

SpaceDyS has the competences for precise orbit determination of such natural objects.
SpaceDyS can also perform simulations and analysis for several purposes: survey simulations, mission to asteroids….

Precise Orbit Determination

SpaceDyS develops advanced software for orbit determination, recognized by the scientific community and used by international organizations such as NASA-JPL, ESA-NEOCC, and the Minor Planet Center.
The software, part of the OrbFit consortium and at the core of the NEODyS and AstDyS services, uses sophisticated dynamical and error models, accounting for the gravitational influence of multiple celestial bodies and, when necessary, non-gravitational forces such as the Yarkovsky effect or cometary activity.
These technologies enable highly accurate orbital tracking and impact risk monitoring for Earth-threatening objects.

Asteroid Mission Analysis and Trajectory Optimization

SpaceDyS has the expertise to perform the mission analysis for micro satellites to operate in the proximity of the Earth or in Deep Space, during all the mission development phases.
Best trajectory solutions are found given mission requirements and constraints, from the definition of launch conditions to the injection in the operational orbit, including orbit determination, navigation, and contingency analysis.
