Collision Avoidance Strategies and STM Solutions
The rapid growth of satellites in Low Earth Orbit (LEO) has significantly increased the risk of in-orbit collisions.
SpaceDyS develops advanced collision risk assessment and autonomous navigation solutions for modern Space Traffic Management (STM).
Core Capabilities
- Impact probability estimation
- High-precision numerical orbital propagators
- Conjunction analysis
- Autonomous collision avoidance algorithms
ABACO – Autonomous Navigation System
In collaboration with the University of Bologna and co-funded by the Italian Space Agency (ASI), SpaceDyS developed ABACO, a system for satellites that performs real-time orbital determination.
It features a Collision Avoidance Computer capable of independently estimating impact probabilities and calculating necessary maneuvers.
– Advanced Orbital Propagators: SpaceDyS has engineered highly efficient numerical propagators that predict the movement of artificial objects even in complex dynamical conditions close to Earth, essential for collision risk assessment.
– Predictive Heritage: Their team and company partners have a long history of debris analysis, famously predicting the risks of fragmentation for the Iridium constellation years before major collision events occurred.
